To the group's credit, they conceded quickly and thanked me for putting this in front of them, but it makes me think about how these people haven't actively sought out works with nonbinary people nor familiarized themselves yet. I suppose I'm just lamenting now that they still need teaching.

My personal technique is to write "uncomfortable" sentences- "He clicks her teeth" to get people to pay more attention. It was the first thing I practiced to get used to it, and I feel like it cues the reader to think about how they're interpreting what's happening on the page

I had to say "Like a scifi or fantasy story having its own lexicon for readers to learn, you're going to have to trust that I as an author am going to be using these rules consistently and follow my example." Which ngl, sucks eggs and if we have to go over pronouns a-fucking-gain I will die

and the torment nexus theoretically might be 'proof' that the social media is something possibly worth investing in (citation needed) so everything is incentivized to make itself a torment nexus in spite of there not really being proof that having a bad time at the computer is actually worth it
