"Trump's inability to halt price increases on 'day one' combined with his disastrous economic and tariff 'strategy' has killed the buying power of the America's world-renowned science agencies. Inflation with budget cuts means fewer cancer treatments, worse disaster preparedness, etc."

There's even a way to pander to the Dem pollsters obsessed with "affordability." Flat in 2025 and a 1.x% cut in 2026 is actually being crushed by inflation. Inflation that was going down with Biden but now going back up with Trump. Science needs to keep up; the comms write themselves:

Their calculation is to look appreciative to the GOP for ignoring Vought's budget. I get it, but even mustering a "please sir, can we have some more?" to keep up with inflation is above their dignity. Instead, it's "thank you for the tiny bowl of gruel. We'll put our peons back to work immediately."

Science is not okay. Because the AAAS focuses on its donors & fellows instead of the early career grunts like me actually doing the science, they are clueless.

Worse is the NYT statement isn't off the cuff; their comms office obsessed over what to say. They agreed to say this.

AGU25 was $913 for regular members or $1107 for non members; 1 day of AGU 2025 early bird was $396 as a member and $494 if not a member.

The fact that you've found a break-even budget of only 50 registrations at $300 really proves how ridiculous conference fees have gotten.

To anyone who might say, but that might hamper a Democratic administration with a GOP house. Fine; I'm willing to make the trade. The Executive branch has too much power.

There just has to be a better way to remove horrible people from government than a Senate supermajority or shaming the shameless.

This doesn't work for the President, but it would increase the oversight of the Executive branch (and maybe Judicial branch too) by the Legislature in a way that leans into the Senate's, uh, allergy to action.

I haven't seen it mentioned elsewhere but the situational awareness of the murderer is also totally absent. There was another civilian in his line of fire on the right. That individual could also have been murdered. He should catch attempted murder on top of his murder charge too.
