In a lot of ways, I'm really lucky. I work from home. I write and draw books. I still experience a lot of the same normal creative issues. I'm burned out. My current project frustrates me. Under the Standards of Ethical Conduct for Employees of the Executive Branch (5 C.F.R. Part 2635), federal employees may not accept money, gifts, or anything of value given because of their position or official actions. Cash or fundraising proceeds are especially PROHIBITED. Ant-bribery and gratuities laws and federal criminal statues (notably 18 U.S.C. $201) PROHIBIT giving or receiving anything of value to influence, reward, or appear to reward an official act -- even if no explicit quid pro quo is intended. No "salary supplementation" allowed. 18 U.S.C. 8 209 makes it illegal to supplement a federal employee's salary with outside payments related to their government service. Fundraising for an office absolutely counts as unlawful supplementation.
