On top of the legal responsibilities of the govt, there is a moral imperative. Having historically removed rights to land and ignored claims to rectify this, massive harms were done to indigenous peoples. Frum and others believe that is too bad. Are we conquerors or cohabiters? Justice matters.

Thanks for the critique in your thread. It’s the depth these issues deserve. I would add that these claims are based on treaties signed by the Cdn Govt or the British Crown and have always been binding. That’s why they’re being upheld in court. We either believe in the rule of law or we don’t.

I read this book 30 years ago and it still has a place in my consciousness. I work in a used bookstore and it still attracts interest. Despite the premise, consciousness arising suddenly at the time of the Iliad, being far-fetched. Jayne’s case is intriguing, worthy of a re-read.
