Senior Director of Federal Budget Policy for the Center for American Progress doing budget, tax, and econ.

Formerly: Biden OMB, Biden Transition Team, Senate Budget Committee (Murray and Sanders).

CBO and OMB’s biggest fan! Personal account.
The huge problem now is that even if you shut down the govt for the rest of the Trump admin, they could still do double ICE for the next 3 years. That orange $$ still exists during a shutdown

Ds must make rescinding it the price of funding the govt when they retake power, as Rs did w/ the IRS money

DHS bill passes the House w/ 7 Ds voting yes & 1 R voting no (4 absent).

House will staple all 6 of the remaining bills together (DHS, Defense, Labor-HHS-Ed, T-HUD, SFOPs, FSGG) and send to the Senate as a single package & then leave town, leaving the Senate to accept or reject the entire package.

Unanimous vote in the House to repeal provision letting Senators sue the US over the Jan 6 probe and get millions of dollars

Genuinely endearing how much the two chambers hate each other. A true Legolas/Gimli meme for House members against their true enemy, the Senate

(will be part of the minibus)

The studio made them do one take with the kiss and one without the kiss, and Shatner and Nichols deliberately flubbed all their lines during the non-kiss take rendering it unusable because they knew the studio would get cold feet (Star Trek didn’t have the budget for reshoots)

One of the most fundamental problems for dealing w/ ICE is the GOP provided years of ICE agent funding in the “Big Beautiful Bill.”

No govt shutdown will end that funding stream, and there aren’t 2/3s votes in each chamber to rescind the funding & override a veto.

Means resistance is what we have.

First found by @bharatkumarmd.bsky.social on the extremely bad site: yesterday at 8:20 pm, Trump tweeted out jobs numbers that included data that weren’t released until 8:30 am today. It was a copy of a presentation with CEA letterhead.

therefore also an immediate cut relative to the previous year’s funding level.

Here were all the accounts he did it to. In total, this was a legal way to cut $2.934 billion (contrasted with all the illegal impoundments he did).

How the Grinch Stole Christmas is about learning to love people who look different from you and who were raised with different customs.

It’s about realizing that deep down we’re all the same with the same core desires and values, and that we all deserve to be loved and included.

The GOP plan is to let premiums massively spike for 21 million Americans.

And then it gives them $1k per year ONLY IF they switch to bronze plans — which it also raises the cost of.

Awful awful plan that fucks over sick people.

If you get your insurance through your job, it’s subsidized by the govt through ESI.

There’s no income cap, it helps the rich the most, and ~1/10 workers in those plans pays no premium.

But when the ACA subsidies help the middle class and provide some zero-subsidy plans? GOP can’t accept that.

It’s in fact extremely easy to give away money in a way that helps people.

Stuff like this is just what you say when you don’t actually want to help others.

A while back, a handful of ancient eulogies went viral. I saved a bunch and now they popped up in my phone memories. Here were the three that stood out most to me.
