World-traveling geek in my 50s. Far too much of my luggage is taken up by books and dice. Yes, I also own a Kindle, but sometimes a fella's gotta have books.
The irony would be that if Maduro tried to cite Supreme Court decisions on presidential immunity claiming that anything he is alleged to have done was an official act as head of state and head of government.

Bill's follow up on this will be to tell us that kidnapping Maduro was good, actually. So ashamed that I ever admired that piece of crap. Maher, I mean.

I mean, you can explain all you want til you're blue on the face that you really did originally purchase the car for your friend Katherine from Manhattan but she didn't want it so you took it back and '4NYKATE' is a perfectly legitimate license plate accordingly, but where does it get ya?

So let me be more exacting in my reply to your earlier comment. Unless they are the lawful guardian it is not the place of a grandparent to decide in place of a parent whether a child's beliefs are justifiable or silly. Ever.

I disagree. When I was young enough that my son still lived in my home rather than have his own as an adult, if my own mother had shown up disrespecting my and my son's choices, she'd have been thrown out. Her home, her rules. My home, my rules. No matter whether she thought they were silly.

Because there is a difference here between not wanting to encourage something and actively violating it, and I think you are deliberately obscuring that difference. But I'm trying to give you the benefit of the doubt and make sure.

So, to be clear, you see no issue, hypothetically, with going into the kitchen of a friend or relative who keeps kosher, as a guest in their home, and setting down a dish of bacon?
January 2, 2026 at 2:56 AM
Also, this *was* at home. The grandparents came over to *their* house with this dish. So, yeah. Your admonition to the other replier to your thoughts on this about learning to read maybe sounds a bit, I dunno, hollow now.

I would argue that when it comes to religious restrictions, not going out of one's way to conform might be excused, but actively going out of one's way to tresspass, as noted in this article, is horrific. The grandparents did it deliberately. Not out of forgetfullness, but with forethought.

I mean, the Devil was also the judge of the competition, so it always struck me as a weird situation anyway.

This ex-Brooklynite and NYU grad -- who does not fully agree with Hizzoner politically but admires the hell out of him anyway -- wants to bust out the Sinatra impression on a balcony in a spirit of celebration... Alas, neighbors already raise eyebrows in a 'dude, really?' look regularly. <sigh>

The Orange Fella has always tried to get by by acting like he was in the vanguard of casting Epstein into the darkness, when it was more like he cast him out of the shared darkness into a more solitary darkness.

I've heard a variant of this in several South and Southeast Asian countries, though the ones where I thought it would come up the most (Indonesia and Malaysia) it didn't. Which struck me as both odd and hopeful, I guess. But Willie still said it best. :)

Feeling a Groundskeeper Willie vibe off of that.

To be fair, maybe we've been hearing the Orange Fella wrong and he's been saying "*Toadal*", as in the fact that his toadies keep claiming he's exonerated.

It looks like one of those 7-11 freezer popsicles.

But how can you be sure you *didn't* make the film? Were you sober and with yourself the whole time?
