Trauma doesn’t make people healthier. It triggers all kinds of negative psychological behaviors that are difficult to reverse. If subjecting one’s self to endless online atrocities and outrage actually sparked activism they’d have to rebuild cities à la 19th century Paris to contain the uprisings.

The narrative pretty much everyone embraced was “any of these three candidates or Frey.” Making it a referendum on Frey benefits him since his image isn’t as negative as many people tend to think. A 1 vs. 1 election would have made it easier for a candidate to sell themselves as a leader.

In bigger races like mayor it also means less funded candidates have to split media attention. That said, I feel like the end result would have been the same no matter what because it would have been Fateh vs. Frey and Mpls swing voters don’t dislike Frey as much as those of us who pay attention.

My dad did this for a few years a couple of decades ago, including crashing with two roommates who owned a house in N. MPLS a couple of nights a week. I wasn’t aware of vices but it’s definitely not great for your mental health and your relationship with your family.

They have the vehicle so we can be reasonably sure it wasn’t a real police car. Presumably they’ve traced the owner and have an idea who the suspect is. It very well could be a former cop or person who’s law enforcement adjacent but it’s probably not an actual cop using their squad car.

I haven’t listened for a long time but the Planet Money podcast was always good for breaking down complex finance topics at a 101 level.

It wasn’t bad compared to farming if you were one of the lucky ones who lived next to a tidal estuary with annual salmon runs and fruiting trees everywhere. Though living on dried salmon six months a year and only having hobbies like making fish traps and flint spear points sounds kind of grim.

Are you confusing subsistence farming with hunter-gatherer lifestyles? Because subsistence farming is and has always been a miserable way to make a living. There’s a reason why in the Adam and Eve narrative part of their punishment is to become subsistence farmers.

I worked in cardboard packaging and manufactured home plants for a couple of summers. Even the worst office jobs are better than that.

I missed following some accounts during games but it had been no fun reading the replies for a long time and following big events or breaking news was ruined as soon as they did paid accounts/algorithm promotion.

Even setting aside the moral justification it’s a quality of life move to not feed people into that stew of Nazis, pornbots, ads, and toxic jerks who pay a monthly subscription to force people to read their angry diatribes.

Ford, GM, Rivian, and Mercedes use geofencing with their versions. Mercedes is level 3 though. Tesla is the only one I’m aware of that doesn’t but I don’t know all the systems.
