Feeling that my name was wrong? That came from me. Feeling that I couldn’t try a girl name? That’s the part society put in my head.

Maybe a different name would feel better? But I ran through all the boy names I could think of and all of them felt the same way.

I have in my desk back home a Disneyland annual pass from when I was about six years old. I keep it as a physical reminder of my earliest memory of dysphoria.

When you’re running an organization like that, you’ve got to have the courage to respond to legal threats with “Do you *really* want to be known as the person who shut down the Girl Guides?”
