Tell me Stanford is acting in a way you expect a Minister to act. Go on. Tell me.

Tell me Stanford, with no education experience, is acting in a way that leads to the creation of good education policy. Go on. Tell me.

Excellent question.

The violations of democratic process are egregious and increasingly brazen and have moved this beyond curriculum — this is about how we want power to behave in this country.

I am not a journalist. This stuff hasn’t been hard to find.

Just think, English teachers of Aotearoa New Zealand: there was a March 2025 version of the rewritten senior English curriculum that didn't fully embrace Rata's determination to "end decolonisation's success".

I think there is merit in not making this all about pedagogy. The curriculum changes have got through because of the continual violation of democratic process, with the knowledge of the Minister. If that is going to stand, none of us are safe anymore.

Surely, everyone cares about that.

You always manage to put things into perspective for me Bevan, I really appreciate that. You're right, this goes beyond teaching and everyone needs to care. It is just so shocking that it is happening!

The other, the version out for consultation, included Shakespeare and Māori and Pacifica authors had been removed.
Recapturing the Senior English Curriculum
2024 had been a good year for Stanford. The speed bump that was the outcry over the senior English curriculum and the lack of consultation had been smoothly managed by her, and she was on a roll wi…

If you’re an English teacher in NZ help Tania out.

I’ve done it. Takes 2-3 minutes. And you’ll be helping out someone with a deep belief in kids and what they can do.

Hearing that music curriculum team has to pass their work through Seymour’s office where he returns with corrections, mostly around removal of treaty references. Performance music is being cut too.
