If I was a dick to you online in recent years then I apologize.

I didn't know or understand my own limitations but I'm getting a grasp on them. I allowed social media to shape my engagement with others in really unhealthy ways that made existing issues worse.

Not doing that anymore.

I was hanging out with my professor in his office and verbally realized in front of him that I forgot to do an ~5 page essay due that day.

I told him I was going to go write it, got up, wrote the essay in less than an hour, turned it in and got the best grade in the class.

He still gets mad at me.

We should all tell our stories like this...mine is "the time I totally forgot about an essay and cranked out a paper on Deleuze & Guattari's Anti-Oedipus in two hours and ended up winning an award for it"

I wrote a 15 page report on heraldic symbolism in medieval armor and weapon design for my art history class the night before it was due (8am class). Made up 90% of it (only found one book for reference) and got an A. GenAI could fucking never.

If there were any doubt that I (still) have PTSD...

Lovely for me that now I get to wonder if I'm going to sleep tonight (or what nightmares I'm going to have) because I'm forced to think about shit I haven't thought about in years.

This is wrong on every level. It’s a rigorous process that can take years. Just because a small number of rotten people faked being blind or paralyzed doesn’t mean the system should be gutted or over 9 million veterans getting benefits smeared. This is so dam irresponsible of WaPo.
bellamyj.blacksky.app
Are there going to be people who manage to get through? Yes. But that's true of basically every system ever created. Mistakes are made.

I can tell you that far more people who are entitled to benefits are denied than people gaming the system.
bellamyj.blacksky.app
You should go get checked out. You are entitled to payment if service gave you a condition you would not otherwise have. You break it, you buy it.

But the idea that there's any widespread fraud is laughable. The process itself is such that gaming it is difficult.
bellamyj.blacksky.app
The idea that this is in any way an honor system when you have to go through *multiple* examinations is fucking ridiculous.
bellamyj.blacksky.app
They just find the most off the wall examples they can to demonize everyone. It's such an old pattern at this point.
bellamyj.blacksky.app
There is an entire infrastructure stood up around helping veterans navigate this system because is it notoriously difficult and rigorous.
bellamyj.blacksky.app
Getting benefits for known problems let alone "fake" ones is damned near impossible.

This is all so ridiculous.

It was one of the books that pushed me along my own intellectual development and away from reform.

It's been a while since I've read this but it was really, really good.

From what I have seen of this person I do not like. It would not have been difficult to simply reply to you.

Brainstem damage found to be behind long-lasting effects of severe Covid-19.

"Using ultra-high-resolution scanners that can see the living brain in fine detail, researchers from the Universities of Cambridge and Oxford were able to observe the damaging effects Covid-19 can have on the brain."
Brainstem damage found to be behind long-lasting effects of severe Covid-19
Damage to the brainstem - the brain's 'control center' - is behind long-lasting physical and psychiatric effects of severe Covid-19 infection, a study suggests.

(Mostly white) farmers were not duped.
bellamyj.blacksky.app
The one white woman farmer on YouTube (I forget her name) pointed out that this is false.

That farmers knew exactly what was coming, expect a bailout, and voted knowing they'd experience a loss in exchange for things they want (this was not elaborated upon--the answer is racism, transphobia, etc).
noreen900.bsky.social
Just like he did with the farmers. Sweet talked them and they fell for it. At least most of them did.

Why were they in the Weimar Republic, Jack?

These fucking people man.

Like I know what they're doing but it isn't any less irritating.

From Donald Trump's Roundtable on Antifa just now —
"Antifa has been around in various iterations for almost 100 years in some instances, going back to the Weimar Republic in Germany."

Fortunately for me I've evolved beyond arguing with these people.

It's enough for me to point it out and move on, nowadays.
