Heard a song I'd never heard before and I was excited that I liked it. But it turns out It was from 2008, by a band I liked back then but I somehow missed the album.

Figures. I'm speeding toward 50 and I like practically nothing that was recorded after 2010. I'm a grumpy old fucker.

It's very simple.
CLT = cold liquor tank.
IBC = irritable bowel... colon.

This brewery closure is hitting me hard. Upright was one of the US breweries that inspired me to open Dageraad. Alex is an incredible brewer and I was lucky enough to have brewed two collabs with him. He taught us a ton and inspired a lot of our spiced beers. I'm mourning a brewery and an era.

Founder Alex Ganum is one of a handful of the most gifted brewers I’ve encountered in my travels around the world, and on a number of occasions, tasting his beer left me startled by its originality and accomplishment. With its singular vision and personality, Upright was an irreplaceable brewery.

This bank is nearly lined up out the door, but only because people are acting like it's still the social distancing days of 2020.

There are only five of us, guys. Cuddle up a little so I can get in the front door.

Steve Irwin knew that.

Too soon?

We're in discussions now. It's going to be a push to sell as much of this beer as we have, so I hope so

EKG is nice, and I'll actually go to bat for Bramling Cross, which is a controversial opinion.

There is no better place to go for crystal malts. Simpsons is my ride or die.

German and French! Strisselspalt is from Alsace. We say no to brexit.

To be fair, fuggle isn't great. English malt is top-notch, but I'll go to Germany for hops.

Greg made it down, too! We had a blast.

(We thought it was funny that a nerdy Belgian-style brewery from BC would get together with the nerdiest-in-Canada spontaneous sour brewery from Edmonton to brew an English pub ale. And it's a beauty.)

On tap: Stiff Upper Biscuit, our collaboration with Blind Enthusiasm from Edmonton. It's an English-style pub ale that we're pouring on a creamer faucet. It's a staged pour, so it takes about four minutes to pour, but this creamy boy is worth the wait.

I agree to willingly, even cheerfully live by your laws. I only ask to have it made clear what they are in advance.

In fact we haven't had zoning for at least a couple of decades. We've had pleading by grovelling supplicants. "Pre-zoning" is zoning.

I got an induction stove and I like it. There are some things that are better about gas, some things are better about induction.

Restaurants use gas because it's cheap energy and they use tons of it. Back in the day my brother's medium-sized restaurant had a higher gas bill than Dageraad

When you've had a tailwind for a long time, you sometimes forget how to work hard. It can take a minute to remember once the wind has swung around against you.

Some things I've learned that applies to cycling and business (and maybe life in general):

You seldom notice when you have a tailwind. You tend to take credit for how awesome you are.

When it turns into a headwind, you blame it for everything wrong.

I didn't know you had one of those bottle openers!! A jeweller made them for us ages ago, probably 2015. We only made ten of them. I've got one in my kitchen drawer.

I'm glad the beer is tasting good. Bottled in December 2021, nearly 4 years old.

Modern version in Calgary. Less cool. It's a shopping mall over a road.

ABC was the definition of a passion project. I don't think Alex and Clete ever took out a dime.

You can go to a big brewery and find out what they think the median drinker will like. Or you can go to a small brewery and let someone show you what they like.

I went to an Irish wake for a brewery and all I got was this lousy t-shirt

Sauing goodbye to Another Beer Co. They're going out with the same sense of humour they always operated with.

Their closing party is this weekend. Don't miss it.

Thank you for your service, sir. That was a stressful time for all of us, and you helped us make sense of what was going on.

Bursitis. WTF. How can a piece of anatomy I didn't even know existed get inflamed?

If there's part of my body that I haven't noticed by now, I'm sure I don't need it. I've been living in this dump for 48 years and never once have I thought, "now I'll use my fluid-filled sacs, called bursae"
