I dunno. This seems like what Bari Weis has been auditioning for. The idea that she can do ‘fox news that will convert liberals.’ Maybe it won’t work, but that seems to be the idea here both from her and her bosses.
The issue, imo, is the ‘emotional linguistics’ of the original concern: ‘calling it fascism means people will give up hope’. This is basically (understandable) negative projection and a desire to control a very bad situation by controlling people’s language.
I’m okay with meriam webster’s definition. I’d be fine with any legit one you can find. Please tell me how this definition does not apply to the trump regime.
And just because I said a pedant cares more about winning a debate than they do being persuasive doesn’t mean I think that makes them effective debaters. It makes them tiresome.
I also care about being clear with words. And I’ve been very clear with mine. And you seemed to assume I said the actual meanings of words was unimportant, when I didn’t say that. I’d say you’re the one not paying attention to the actual meaning of words.
Yeah but I’m not saying that. I’m saying that you probably shouldn’t try to sound proud to be pedantic. And I’m saying splitting hairs about using the word fascist is pointless. And I’m saying that thinking we live under fascism does not mean we don’t care to fight it.
It was definitely the CIA and probably tue KGB who really perfected the art of making a fascist regime look less like one and get all offended when called one. As opposed to the original fascists who were proud to be fascists.
It’s like Mars Attacks and every elite institution and rich master of the universe type is like ‘It’s cool - I actually just made a deal with the Martians!’
Congratulations to Brown university for trying to appease a fascist sociopath and then discovering that was just step one on their journey to becoming Trump’s catamite.
Does this mean the domestic political reporting in your newspaper will acknowledge the reality of human-made global warming? Or are you still going to ‘both sides’ the apocalypse every time there is an election?
Is it legal to murder people on a whim? The Daily takes the obvious answer to this question and submerges it into a morass of second guessing, bad faith arguments, and ponderous ‘interesting point’ sighs.
The U.S. military has blown up three boats in the Caribbean Sea in the past three weeks, killing 17 people. Each time, President Trump has claimed that the boats were carrying drugs to the U.S. Are the strikes legal? Listen to today's episode of "The Daily."
