Even ignoring Nick Park, Holly Washington, Danny Boyle, Simon Beaufoy, Pete Postlethwaite etc it's sort of magnificent that the culture secretary hasn't noticed that Sally Wainwright has made "drama set within ten miles of Halifax" a standalone TV genre.

Wimbledon is a microcosm for Britain: in a globalised economy, you can make a fine living as a forum for competition even if you don't produce the star players. But if you do not grow, you are overtaken; and a girdle of regulation is keeping us small.
