This has come together so well! Watching Des go from a pile of salvaged wood bits to what you see here has been such a joy to follow.

To celebrate finally finishing my new table set I got some little touches to make it feel more useable in them encroaching long nights. The overground tube fabric cushion was more silly a idea but now feels incredibly fitting. Now to make the rest of the space as nice. #woodworking
Now completed workshop table set with standing and rolling table

Great success!

Made it @sharpiepls.com! TY for your help earlier.

One note for the docs, maybe. Everything went bonkers from cookies/localstorage in my browser. Clearing that, then starting a fresh login/session cleared all the errors and cached ickyness.

I'll write up all these (gitea setup, object storage + LFS, asset library management, plus eventually Unity on it as well) as three parts of this journey since there's a lot to each. Hope those posts will help folks along if they choose to try this route.

I've been reading up on how to store assets as a library with git + LFS + object storage, but I don't have that up and running yet. I'll probably have enough time to test an initial setup next week, but it seems like that will keep workflow from conflicting too badly.

TBH, I didn't think of it at first, then added LFS to the Gitea install pretty easily. The harder part was getting it installed correctly on Windows, but once I had it on both machines, everything went smoothly.

Back at it after a day "lost" yesterday to setting up Gitea. Trying to set a little mood with quick lighting + tricks so I can think about positioning of details inside, day/night cycle, and eventual texturing. Hope to round out a complete rough draft by Friday afternoon.

Same interior, but with a little more structure in place, some colors on objects, and a few lights + emissive tricks to give some idea of the feel I'll be going for at different times of day.

Finally going to make the jump today. I know you mentioned setting up custom domain after the jump, but should I use my custom domain (current) or original bsky handle (previous/reserved) as the “old handle” value?

And thanks for being both Blacksky hype and tech support rockstar! 🙏

Loads of new faces on here these days!

I'm Friedemann, I made Summerhouse and a couple of other games and am working on Sots & Daggers, a tactical slot machine game where you spin to fight weird creatures!

What are you working on?

Strong “it’s Christmas week so let’s haul out the projector for family memories time before opening gifts and getting a slot track set” vibes.

Adding foreground elements - depth is still vital for 2D games!

The aesthetic on this is so fun. I love stuff that’s outside the everyday and that hangs together so well.

Hey, if Perforce gets the job done, then it’s the right tool for you!

Happy to share post when it’s up; hopefully useful in some way to someone.

"This game is a delectable morsel, best savored, and a rare treat in a year already full of great games."

@qdork.bsky.social you know you got this great piece written about the game too, right? www.rogue.site/editorials/c...

If anyone wants to learn more about this journey, hit me up. Happy to share process, tips, initial experiences, etc. I'll probably write the whole thing up on the blog later this week.

Success!?!?

Pro: So, Gitea is running, and after some meddling with ssh keys it's all good, yayyyy! Now I can migrate away from github, etc.

Con: It is 3:30 and I all I wanted to do was move a Blender file to my PC to work on it. That was at 9am 🤦

An actual commit has been made to a self-hosted repo. YAYYYYY!!!!

My day so far:

- Wish I could move a Blender file between computers
- Wish I could use something other than thieving Github
- Oh, Gitea looks promising

... four hours later ...

- So Cloudron needs Cloudflare's DNS config + a LetsEncrypt cert to point to DO to package manage the Gitea install ...

Can't remember who it was that I am following that had an open question/thought about getting off github (or anywhere that reads your code) but I am starting a journey of deploying my own Gitea instance today and will report back as I go.
