🔶 MP for North Cornwall

⚖️ Lib Dem Shadow Attorney General
Promoted by Lib Dems at 4 Tower St. PL15 8BQ
I often deal with complex domestic abuse cases on behalf of my constituents in North Cornwall. Many are victims of economic abuse, where partners will restrict bank accounts, access to funds, and leave the victim financially alone and helpless. ❌

Lovely to catch up with Paul Tyler (North Cornwall MP 1992 - 2005) during a recent visit! 🙂

Happy New Year to you all 🎉

Ben Maguire today launched the 'North Cornwall Dental Action Group' with the aim of bringing together dentists, health partners and others. 🤝

🚨↩️ Reflecting back on 2025… and what a year it has been!

We’ve had a number of huge wins this year, especially with Government’s recent U-turn on the Family Farm Tax that was fought against from the start by hundreds of North Cornwall’s farmers 🎉

Now onto 2026!

🎄 Merry Christmas, North Cornwall! 🙂

🚨🚜 FAMILY FARM TAX U-TURN: CAMPAIGN WIN ✅

Huge news today: After over a year of constant pressure, the Government has FINALLY backed down on their damaging Family Farm Tax proposals!

🏥 Hundreds of thousands of people in our hospitals right now are well enough to leave - but they can’t, because the social care system is under far too much strain to receive them.

It’s like fixing a leaky bucket in our NHS… 👇

☕️ Thanks to all of those who came out to my 'Brew with Ben' event last night in Wadebridge!

It was great to speak to so many constituents and answer various questions, take on new casework, and talk about a number of issues raised by attendees. 🤝

🚨 I spoke about the rising cost of living for my North Cornwall constituents on LBC last night...

Because while the Labour government seems busy with infighting and division (just like the previous Conservative government) the rest of the country struggles with prices.

🚨🚨 At PMQs today, I pressed the Prime Minister on water pollution in North Cornwall - from the Camelford Water Poisoning scandal in the past, to the sewage dumping our communities are having to face now.

My constituents deserve answers, accountability, and action.

I'll be making sure they get it.

🚨 Tonight I voted against the Family Farm Tax (part of the government's Finance Bill) on behalf of North Cornwall’s farming community.

I’ve raised this repeatedly in Parliament, met directly with Ministers, and hosted Cornish farmers at Westminster to make their voices heard.

🚨 Another quick reminder of Thursday's 'Brew with Ben' event - it would be great to see you there! 🙂 ☕️

🎄 It was wonderful to visit the Royal Mail Launceston delivery office (in true Christmas tradition) last week, where I chatted with the postmen and even tried my hand at sorting some of the post! 📨

🚨🎅 Delighted to announce that Hannah from Berrycoombe School in Bodmin is the winner of my Christmas Card competition this year!

Thanks very much to all the children who sent in their designs. We had some really bright, creative ideas and it was so difficult to pick a winner!

📚 A great day visiting Launceston College and Launceston Primary School yesterday.

I held Q&A sessions with students, took some brilliant questions, and even had a go on their VR headsets (a fantastic example of how engaging learning can be!) 🙂

🚨 Yesterday I met with MOD Minister Luke Pollard, to push forward Bodmin Keep’s case and help secure the funds needed for the museum to re-open its doors ASAP.

I’ve been supporting the Keep since they reached out to me last year, working with them to help secure their future.

🚝 Rail Nationalisation - what good will it actually bring for North Cornwall? 🤔

With infrequent trains, packed carriages, abysmal WiFi, and sky-high fares, I asked what it’ll actually mean for my constituents in real terms… 👇
December 10, 2025 at 12:21 PM
🚨🚨 DIGITAL ID DEBATE: North Cornwall says NO!

Today I stood up in a debate on Digital ID, after literally hundreds of my constituents have written in to oppose the Government’s plans. ❌
December 8, 2025 at 7:09 PM
🚨Rogue builders in North Cornwall 🚨

I stood up in Parliament to voice the concerns of many of my constituents who’ve been stung by rogue builders.

The effects can be devastating - and so many people here in North Cornwall have either experienced it first hand...

I was out holding a doorstep surgery in Padstow recently with Cornwall Cllr. James O'Keefe.

Thanks to all of those who raised various issues - I'll be following up shortly! 🤝
December 7, 2025 at 11:34 AM
🚨🪪 DIGITAL ID: The Government STILL seems set on introducing a mandatory Digital ID system that almost everyone is dead against - including me.

It'll cost the British taxpayer billions of pounds, which completely dwarfs the savings from things like the damaging Family Farm Tax...

🙂 Last week was UK Parliament Week, which aims to get young people more involved in democracy.

It was great to meet with Callywith College student Daniel recently, who had a few questions to ask about my priorities for North Cornwall - and what I’m doing to help young people 👇

🚨 Today we’ve heard that another TWELVE prisoners have been wrongfully released in the last three weeks alone - with two of them still at large.

This crisis stems from the last Government, which I recently raised in the Commons. 👇
December 2, 2025 at 5:06 PM
🚨💬 I stood up in Parliament to make the case for North Cornwall's fishing community - and to demand that the Minister give them proper say in how the new Fishing and Coastal Growth Fund will be spent. 👇

🚨 ☕️ 'A Brew with Ben' alert!

Join me on Thursday 18th December at The Goods Shed in Wadebridge (5-6pm) for a chat & a cuppa.

It's your chance to raise any local issues with me, have your say, or simply stop by for a chinwag.

I look forward to seeing you there! 🙂
