That’s what we always think about British defence though isn’t it - muddling through. Except sometimes it’s intentional. Am finding this in relation to the Options for Change review, 1990-91.

Absolutely. I do wonder whether the lack of urgency in U.K. rearmament is closely related to the speed of Polish rearmament- i.e. let them (and later Germany) provide the conventional deterrence. If so, risky.

Poland is interested in rapidly developing serious land capabilities. The U.K. has no plans to expand the Army despite everything that’s happening. More important to develop “lethality”, apparently.
