Good news in today's new car figures - a quarter of new UK cars were electric in October. With plug-in hybrids, 37% of new cars had a plug. A good result, up from 30% last October.

Petrols and diesels are down.

Cycled past a new housing development in Egham Hythe. Each house has an EV charger and it's good to see them in use as people start to move in. But they only have a tiny amount of solar panels for some reason.

September was a record month for #EV sales in the UK with 72,770 full electric cars, nearly a quarter of new cars sold. Plus 38,308 plug-in hybrids. So over a third of new cars had a plug. www.smmt.co.uk/september-ne...

Enjoyed a cycle along the Thames to Kew at the weekend.

Weird juxtaposition of @makethempay.bsky.social speeches in Whitehall with a small Orange march going past. That's proper freedom of speech, but having longer between them would have been better.

Found not one but two Olaudah Equiano plaques on the way to the march. Very appropriate!

On the way home from the Robin Cook memorial lecture, given brilliantly and thoughtfully by @labourlewis.bsky.social Nice venue too. Thanks @compassoffice.bsky.social

Enjoyed How to Pray by Pete Greig. I like his wisdom and lack of hype.

Looking forward to St John's, Egham Eco Fayre tomorrow, lots of good stuff and great people, plus me talking about climate campaigning. We've had lots of wins but the outlook is unsettled - what's next?

Enjoyed Hozier at Reading last night - great voice, great band and some good messages. Liked the surprising amount of political statistics in the visuals.

Two G-wiz experimental electric vehicles, seen decaying in a drive today while leafleting for the Addlestone by-election.

Good to pray with Christians for Palestine and join the Palestine Solidarity march. 🇵🇸 Stop starving Gaza! And stop arming Israel.

Enjoyed Sugar in the Blood by Andrea Stuart. History of Barbados and slavery traced through her family tree. Fascinating, and beautifully written.

Left my pan on the pile at the gates of Downing Street. Each one commemorates a Palestinian shot while queuing for food. It was very moving, and very loud with a huge crowd of compassionate people banging pots and pans. @pscupdates.bsky.social

Enjoyed this one - Beyond Hashtag Activism by the excellent Mae Elise Cannon. A good survey of issues of justice written for the church in the US, and interesting insights for us in the UK too. Written at the end of Trump's first term.

Enjoyed the arts and crafts and palaces ride from @londoncycling.bsky.social It's multi-millionaire London, Belgravia, Chelsea, Brompton, Kensington, Fulham and often beautiful. Never seen so many rolls-royces in one day. Makes me want a #Wealthtax. Lots of churches from different countries too.

Durham uni open day yesterday, enjoyed exploring - it's a beautiful place. A long journey from Staines.

A third of new cars had a plug, in the UK last month. A fifth didn't have an engine. Electrification keeps growing.

Britain kept electrifying our cars in May
✅21% of new cars were full electric (or BEVs)
✅35% had a plug
✅Fewer cars had engines

The government's ZEV mandate pushes car makers to sell more electric cars, so they've cut prices, so people have bought more of them. www.smmt.co.uk/new-car-mark...
