And no matter what form it takes: another time, another universe, or just some loan random ship in the middle of the universe just give me good characters and story. The rest I can deal with. I was pretty skeptical about JJ-Trek. The quality won me over and ironically also led to Picard.

I'm going to reserve judgment until I know more. A completely stand alone trek could have advantages and stakes like we've never seen before if done right. A crew and ship without plot armor.
