Good mail day/week. Two 4Ks that I’m pretty eager to revisit (especially the Woo, which I haven’t seen in decades—pretty sure VHS) and a Teruo Ishii that I haven’t seen and missed that it had been released.

Here are my top fifteen movies with a 2025 world premiere date. Still have several to see, so this is a snapshot. Good year for new movies imo.

Looks like I’m done with movies for 2025. Here are my top discoveries…

I grabbed THE IDIOTS and DOGVILLE on Blu Ray from @4xblu.bsky.social today. I probably should have sprung for the Curzon boxset of Von Trier films but I owned too many already for it to make sense. Good special features on these discs, for those able to play Region B discs.

Second round of Christmas gifts. Thankfully don’t have to explain these…

AI is good now.

My mom gave me the Shout! blaxploitation classics boxset for Christmas. It was fun explaining to everyone in my family what exactly “blaxploitation” means and why I would want it.

Good mail day / early Christmas gifts to myself. The lovely new 4K editions of POSSESSION and RE-ANIMATOR from the wonderful folks at Second Sight. Should be a final, definitive copy of each of those.

I still have a few on the way, but here’s my vinyl collection of new music released in 2025. Somewhere around 45 new releases added to my collection (with a few unavoidable doubles like Clipse, Wet Leg, Marissa Nadler, etc). Good year in music.

Good mail day. Got the Vinegar Syndrome / Mélusine Black Friday sale films (of which I’ve seen TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE PART 2, THE STENDHAL SYNDROME and NEW ROSE HOTEL). I also got a lathe cut record with a demo from Eleanor Friedberger, her first new music in several years.

Just found this at the local thrift store. Pretty crazy if it’s real, not sure why it would exist if it wasn’t real…

Where’d I get it: Estate sale

Why’d I get it: I like doo-wop and I didn’t have it. Good copy too

On Spotify: Yes

How many plays: 2

Verdict: Always thought of The Coasters as a singles band but this is pretty consistently great and wonderfully strange collection of songs. 9/10

Keep or sell: Keep

Ugh. Help. So many.

Dozens of 90s video cds at the thrift today.

Where’d I get it: Estate sale last weekend.

Why’d I get it: A nice copy, pretty rare and it was 5 for $1.

On Spotify: Yes

How many plays: 2

Verdict: I knew Vincent from “Be-Bop-A-Lula” and from his appearance in THE GIRL CAN’T HELP IT. Really enjoyed this primitive rock. 8/10

Keep or sell: Keep

Good mail day. All three are unseen by me. I’m glad I was patient and waited for a great release of THE HOUSE WITH LAUGHING WINDOWS, which I’ve been desperate to see for quite some time.

I switched to Tidal because Spotify seems like a shitty company, here are some details from the Tidal wrap.

I played the new Teethe and Hotline TNT albums a lot and really enjoyed the Tacoma Radar reissue from Numero. I’ll post a best of 2025 list sometime in January, when I’ve heard more.

#Top5FirstViews November
(I skipped October because it would have been all AFI FEST, this list is still mostly new release catch up.)
1. MEGADOC (Figgis)
2. ANGEL GUTS: RED PORNO (Ikeda)
3. DIE MY LOVE (Ramsay)
4. THE WAR GAME (Watkins)
5. IT WAS JUST AN ACCIDENT (Panahi)

First visit to Barnes & Noble for this Criterion sale, they didn’t have most of what I was looking to find.

Sometimes you go to the thrift store and they have a rare Devo bootleg. This one was stuffed inside a minty copy of Sade’s STRONGER THAN PRIDE (I would have plenty happy to have the Sade record).

God what an amazing career Udo Kier had.

At thrift store and they have a ton of 90s low budget action movies on laserdisc. Not really sure how much of this I should buy. I wish they weren’t $5.99 each.

Dog sitting today.

Local thrift store has “Dear Me,” Peter Ustinov’s autobiography, here’s the section where we talks about working on LOLA MONTES and calls Max Ophüls “a German giggler who lived in his own particular stratosphere of subtlety.” Enjoy.

Top five after “Various” which was the favorite. This list will probably change a bit once I’ve finished cataloging my 7” collection.

I should trim down by King Gizzard and Segall collections a bit. Not all of those are essential.
