Morty's keeping close watch over the little people and the big trucks out in the street. The little round yellow thing on the left is the wheel of a backhoe which is digging up my neighbor's driveway. No water for a while, surprise!

I had so many photos, in addition to my post, I also make a slideshow video with music.

They were there because I was at my desk. They stayed there all afternoon, as long as I was there. Mimi and the Four always followed me around, and the other four followed them. I couldn't have been happier every day to turn around and see them tumbled all over the cabinet, and later in the baskets.

The black cats are Mimi, Mr. Sunshine, Giuseppe, Mewsette and Jelly Bean, plus Basil and Bella and Hamlet, all the black cats in the house at that time.

How well I remember those naps on the cabinet by the window.

It turned out this slumber part lasted almost a week! The yellow basket, the zebra-striped fleecy mats, and between four and seven black cats—and at one point Hamlet's little fluffy gray sister Ophelia, all the cats enjoying afternoons of winter naps while I worked at my desk.

Friday Four and More: Winter Naps for Seven Black Cats, December 2016

I happened to scroll through a folder of photos from December 12, 2016 and decided I'd use those photos for this week's Friday Four and More, and I also made a little slideshow video with music by a friend.

I usually offer this in September so that portraits can be done by December, but this year was a little scrambled. It's never too late, though! And giving a certificate as a gift lets the recipient choose their photos and plan their portrait. And if it's for you then get your pictures together!
December 6, 2025 at 7:43 PM
The sooner you order, the sooner I'll start on your portrait, even though it's unlikely to be ready before the December holidays start in earnest.

Discount on custom commissioned portrait certificates!

I’m offering 15% off the purchase of a portrait certificate that is booked between now and December 31, 2025. I'll send you the certificate along with a brochure to give as the gift.

I'm going to apologize in advance to the girls and you for some shameless self-promotion over the next few days. I'm way behind on this as this autumn got a little scrambled, but there's still enough time to share a few things.

I'll be posting individual posts but here are some general links:

Hamlet, Bella, Sienna waiting for breakfast.

I make my coffee in the morning and head outside to my garden to enjoy it while I hang out there. I think a lot, mostly remembering sweet and funny things about the seven amazing felines I've lost recently and the half dozen others before,...

ON DECEMBER 6, 1992, during a heavy storm of snow and ice, a little neighbor boy brought me a kitten he'd rescued but could not keep. That very special tortoiseshell kitten joined my household that day, though neither she nor I had any idea how long or how deep our relationship would become.

Mariposa's face when she saw the snow.

She may not look happy, but she took off and ran around the house making little noises for at least a half hour afterward and has been supercharged since then.

So Mimi kept a vigil of listening to them moving around back there while they munched up what was left of the garden they'd invaded in summer.

Mimi found some things to smell and scratch out front, like her favorite chunk of old tree stump and...

Mimi and Mewsette Monday: Deer in the Back Yard! November 29, 2018

Mimi, alert, looks cautiously around the corner of the house to see the deer in the back yard.

No back yard time for Mimi and Mewsette right then!
