DNA work is changing the names of fungi but I'm still having problems with the different ways the names are pronounced!

Species is Caloboletus calopus - Bitter Beech Bolete

It’s in the alt text… Caloboletus calopus - Bitter Beech Bolete. Not poisonous, but not for the foraging basket unless you want your dinner ruined.

Inocybe geophylla - White Fibrecap. Small but deadly. #FungiFriends #FungiFriday

Same family, different species... that's Helvella crispa - White Saddle.

Helvella lacunosa - Elfin Saddle. Weird & gnarly little mushroom. Very well camouflaged so I was thrilled to find them. #FungiFriends #FungiFriday

Russula sp. surrounded by the extremely poisonous Inocybe geophylla - White Fibrecap. They’re popping up everywhere. #FungiFriends

Laccaria amethystina - Amethyst Deceiver 💜 #FungiFriends

No worries. I'm only guessing. Only way to be sure would be to take a sample & look at the spores under a microscope.

or is that Hazel... d'oh. It's a Hazel leaf
bernoid.bsky.social
mmm... going off that Beech leaf it looks too small to be S. crispa. It could be Ramaria sp.

Rickenella fibula - Orange Mosscap. #FungiFriends

*10cm !! ...although I'd love it if it was 10m!

Too large to be Mycena sp. To be honest with you I didn't know what this one was. Here it is from the top. Cap was about 10m diameter. Thank you for the invite. Decoy is brimming with fungi!

Morning... #FungiFriends
A trio of Amanita fulva - Tawny Grisette emerging from their 'universal veil' egg casings.

Mycena haematopus - Burgundydrop Bonnet. #FungiFriends

At that size it could be Amanita rubescens - The Blusher. The cap colour is extremely variable, ranging from almost white with a silvery sheen, all the creams, right through to deep brown. If it’s kicked in the flesh will be stained pink/red… they blush!

Hypholoma fasciculare - Sulphurtuft. #FungiFriends
