Everyone deserves to have their needs fulfilled. If a partner can't do that, the partner using guilt and manipulation to prevent fulfillment of those needs is abuse.

And if a relationship between two people is an emotional affair only if their opposite genders?

The conversation around them talks about feeding emotional needs outside a relationship via a heteronormative friendship.

Any time a person is assumed to be unable to spend time with people of the opposite gender that raises two flags for me. First, that's coercive control and second, homophobic.

The first results on google and wikipedia aren't great. They articles are all quite bias and come from unreliable sources. (Looking at you FOTF.) That only encouraged me to look a bit deeper.
