If I cringe any harder at the Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp's stand-up comedy routine, I may fold in on myself, collapsing into a PSR-J0952–0607-style neutron star of vicarious embarrassment. ~AA

Among the worse interviews I've seen a politician give. There is no way Badenoch can (or should) survive until May.

- Do you admire Nigel Farage?
- On what basis?
- Do you admire him?
- I don't understand your question.
- What do you think of him?
- Why don't you ask me about Ed Davey?" 😱 ~AA

Dad’s books are full of empathy, common sense, and a healthy suspicion of the powerful. But at its heart his work is also about how systems keep people poor while pretending it’s their own fault. So I hope Kemi’s taking notes as well as reading the jokes.

In Discworld, cities thrive because they welcome dwarfs, trolls, vampires, and humans alike. Ankh-Morpork works because everyone belongs. Funny how fiction can seem more humane than policy sometimes.

Michael Heseltine tells @europeanmovement.co.uk event that the Farage's Reform and European populist far right parties are “equivalents to the fascists of the thirties” and adds: ”We have to deal with President Trump for the next 3 years. We don't need his mouthpiece anywhere near No.10.” ~AA 🔥

Robert Peston
@Peston
Heseltine has just addressed a packed meeting of the European Movement at Tory conference. He does not show the restraint of most party leaders in his critique of Farage and Reform: “right wing equivalents to the fascists of the thirties are back on the march: Le Pen in France, AfD in Germany, Fdl in Italy, Vox in Spain and conspicuously Reform in this country. Much of President Trump's language in America coincides with words here in Europe. The immigrant has replaced the Jew as the problem which needs a solution although recent events here have cast a dark shadow…We must make clear that we will never have any part in the populist extremism of Nigel Farage. We have to deal with President Trump for the next 3 years. we don't need his mouthpiece anywhere near Number 10.”

I'll bite. What is the benefit we gain from politicians being able to 'thoughtfully' say in private 'blacks, British Bangladeshis, British Pakistanis, British Indians, mulattos....all the same, and clearly from the look of them not-integrated?'

Shadow DEFRA SoS, Victoria Atkins MP, bemoans those trying to score points off Jenrick's "private" remarks: "These are conversation we must have thoughtfully away from the clickbait of social media that, sadly, is so often the case."

And here is Victoria Thoughtful-Atkins at a farmers' protest. ~AA

But the point is, you wouldn't know it, Stephen. Because you wouldn't be in that private room. ~AA

Considering how historically literate and sensitive to echoes of speeches of the past our media has shown itself to be, when it comes to every word uttered by a progressive, I find the lack of reaction to Jenrick ending his speech with "let us build this new order" quite puzzling. ~AA

I suspect when Jenrick imagined saying the final words "let's build this new order, let's take our country back," his voice BOOMED and the roar of the crowd was DEAFENING. In the event, his voice cracked and was met with the politeness of a local baking contest won by "a not-bad lemon drizzle". ~AA

Ask him what an "open borders charity" is. His main example is a charity that delivers legal services to immigrants being detained too long. ~AA

Jenrick delivers one of the most asinine speeches I have ever heard. He even brought along a prop, to explain how a judge becomes impartial setting aside personal views, then went on to attack judges for having views. His solution? Abolish tribunals. And who will adjudicate cases? Pfft. Details. ~AA

I don't generally share them, but in this case I thought it was significant that it was the Mail doing a proper hatchet-job. ~AA

Chris Philp: "Now, what I've got to tell you now will shock you. There is a so-called Anti Racism Commitment Plan that literally says: policing should not be colour-blind."

Only, it literally does not. It just explains the difference between equality and equity. ~AA
Anti-racism and racial equity
Our commitment to anti-racism means

Taking a stand against racism in all its forms
Proactively identifying, understanding and tackling racial inequalities in policing
Reforming policies and practices that lead to people from different ethnic groups being over-policed, under-protected or marginalised
Working with partners to tackle the racial inequalities that exist in wider society and which are reproduced and sometimes exacerbated by policing
Our commitment to racial equity means

Producing equality of policing outcomes for people from different ethnic groups by responding to individuals and communities according to their specific needs, circumstances and experiences, with understanding that these will be racialised and with the aim of reducing harm.
It does not mean treating everyone ‘the same’ or being ‘colour blind’ (racial equality).

Today we remember the victims of the 7/10 atrocities, deadly ripples of which continue to engulf far too many innocents. As @laylamoran.bsky.social said last year, we must hold ALL the people suffering in our hearts. If Layla can do it, with loved ones in peril, can we ask any less of ourselves? ~AA

For months, Badenoch has said that she wouldn't jump the gun on leaving the ECHR, because she wanted to fully assess the implications, and within 24 hours of announcing the policy, completely on the hoof, she has also committed her party to a no-deal Brexit by default. 😂 🤡 😂 ~AA

Anna asks Badenoch: “How will you deal with the potential failure of the UK-EU TCA?”… should the UK leave the ECHR

“The Trade and Cooperation Agreement is one that can be terminated at any time with a 12 month notice period… it could happen irrespective of leaving the ECHR, we do not need to be in the ECHR for that agreement to continue” #r4today

Wow. Robert Jenrick doubles down by branding a black journalist's questions "ridiculous" and saying that the problem is not his comments, but "journalists like you who pop up and try to knock me down", adding that "this is the reason why terrorist attacks happen". ~AA
