Agreed. Couldn’t fit more in a post but the headline stats are clear. Urban living is more sustainable. Wider point about Grand Designs (which I enjoy) is less well made. Most accept it’s entertainment (budget overruns, bloody-minded pursuit of dreams) rather than aspiration

Agreed. Sustainable homes and sustainable living are two different things. Commuting by car generates about a tonne of CO2 a year whilst gas heating boilers about 2.2 tonnes, so a more sustainable home will be more than offset if you still need to travel by car for everything in a rural area.
