And who dresses you? #Mannequin is another wonderful #PoemsAbout prompt @alanparrywriter.co.uk @thebrokenspine.co.uk #StayCreative #PoetsSupportPoets #PoetsOfBlueSky
On Display

Dress me to kill.

Cocktail party perfect breasts
and hips tautly wrapped

trendy plunged neckline
slutty edged hem

penciled face
you aren’t afraid of.

Snared by
fishnet stockings

I cannot move
my plastic body -

a target
of the hunt in your dreams.

Dress me to kill.

The Crab Man

by Eliot North

Turn left, close the gate
Enter Mariner’s Lane.

The road to the shore
Is all salt and tar.

Go right down to
Correction House Bank.

Smell the fish guts,
Feel it pull you.

Push Gossip’s voice
Far from your mind.

Ignore the shudder
Of trains, overhead.

Down Tanner’s Bank
Pick your way.

Head held high,
Nose to the wind,

Past empty warehouses.
Go to The Crab Man.

Block out the warning
Tone of her voice.

See him in his red robes,
Inside the chainmail door.

Feel the cleaver’s rhythm
Smashed over and over.

Watch how he stills,
Cocks an ear to the sound.

The swish of metal skirts
Closing behind you. Filmpoem of The Crab Man by Eliot North (Eleanor Holmes) on The Poetry Society website:https://poems.poetrysociety.org.uk/poets/eliot-north/

Really excited that @inksweatandtears.co.uk are publishing my poem 'Longing for green' on @poetrydayuk.bsky.social on the theme of #PLAY, with such great poetic company, exploring all the multifaceted ways in which we as humans love to play.

Happy National Poetry Day!!! 💜💚🧡💛

Delighted to hear that my poem 'Moeritherium' has received a Best of the Net nomination!

Published by the wonderful @whaleroadreview.bsky.social, it was inspired by this model in the Natural History Museum 💙
Moeritherium

After walking beneath blue whale bones
and following the loops of mammoth tusks,

I linger near an unsuspecting model:
the squat, shapely form of a moeritherium.

Indirect ancestor of elephants and sea cows,
all Eocene curves with soft, painted eyes.

The grey egg of her body is dwarfed
by stockier relatives, but she seems

to float in front of me, goddess of buoyancy,
the spirit of the semi-aquatic. I admire her

womb-shaped face, her stubby trunk, which
is touch-whitened from decades of petting,

but resist the urge to reach out. I am content
with our closeness, the shared beauty

of those without descendants.

When the likes of Trump & Farage try to trash scientific method - insinuating that drugs are dangerous when they're not, and that scientists are charlatans - remember this story, and countless others like it.

We are so incredibly lucky to have modern medical science.
