A few bits & bobs about me:
I like to write eco poetry. I live in Oxfordshire and grew up on a farm. My debut pamphlet “Arboreal” was published in January 2024. I have poems in various places (see my linktree above if you’d like to read them!)
Here’s my most recent one:

Magma grassroots. Worship

surely the people is grass - Isaiah 40:7

If we let it in—a green religion.
If a voice in the sky said:
This grass is your home, & we listened.
City of grass /grass as body; a hive mind connecting fields of possibility.
Grass as revolution,
as the answer to the question,
finding its voice; language of grass— grass-tongue. splitting
into endless variations:
soil-talk, root-talk, beetle-talk, & so on.
Grass song, its green hymn-a meadow, dancing.
Grass as memory / history / truth, swishing in the wind.
Unforgotten, or, perhaps, simply remembered.

POPCORN
By Lucy Heuschen
Commended in the Poetry Society's Stanza Competition 2025

The first time he calls me popcorn I take it like a compliment.
A little caramel, a little salt. Enough sweetness to make me
open my mouth. Popcorn is not served at the club like port
and cigars. He tries hard to show me, make me understand.
It takes years for me to understand. To fashion a dolly, first
she must be stripped. I yield. String myself light as Christmas
trim. I am (of course I am) popcorn. I deserve to be popcorn.
Will never be anything more. Cheap as poor man’s cocaine,
thrilling on the tongue. A sugar rush, consumed in the dark
long before the credits roll. I forget. I forget my kernel, the wild
grass I stem from. How to green myself with rain, stretching
my fingers skyward. I forget my spikelets, my silk, my tassels,
my gold. How to cocoon, how to butterfly. Swelling, scorched, splitting like a wound, I rise— strike my hellish racket—
bangbangbang— into his speechless face, that sweet, livid O!
I’ve let them think I’m popcorn ever since. If it serves me,
I wear it. Popcorn still pulls them in. At night I unzip my skin,
shrug it off, step from its folds, clean. If I can’t sleep, can’t sleep,
can’t sleep, I count all the men, all the mouths I’ve burned.

A dunnock’s prayer

O wingless wun,

Bright sky-keeper,

Wherever you are, The Poetry Society wishes you a very happy National Poetry Day in the company of poetry.
The official graphic for National Poetry Day 2025 on the theme of 'Play'. It's an 8-bit, pastel background of a cherry blossom tree against a blue sky with books being thrown into the air. In large, alternating pink and blue text in the centre of the image, it reads: National Poetry Day / 02.10.2025 / PLAY
