Aggressive cancer doesn’t care that your dad died of a blood cancer. Aggressive cancer doesn’t care if your son died from a brain tumor. It just is, so let’s focus on lifting up the lived experiences of cancer survivors and dispel the conspiracy theories. Let’s fight for more resources.

After so many blood draws, I was admitted and sent to a room for the night, with no food/drink after midnight bc of a bone marrow biopsy the next day. I was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia, an aggressive blood cancer. I didn’t leave the hospital for an entire month for treatment.

In January 2020 I defended my dissertation and had felt crummy, but attributed it to teaching full time at a university while finishing my EdD program as a single mom. In February I went to the dr for ongoing flu symptoms. I went home with an inhaler, then a call told to go to the ER immediately.

When I was recovering from acute myeloid leukemia, I depended on the ability to take care of my social security disability needs over the phone. Going to the office was not an option since my immune system was shot.
