I know he's reporting on important stuff, but it's very easy to get distracted by how hot Hugo Bachega is.

Excited for #CelebrityTraitors tonight, but even more excited for Claude fashion. Shall I be drawing large amounts of Winkleman fashion looks? Undoubtedly.
A collection of black and white (and a tiny bit of red) drawings of Claudia Winkleman in some of her looks across the various series of The Traitors

Today is a day when arts degrees are worthless, but the product of those degrees is so valuable it would kill an entire industry if they were made to pay for it.

It's so good. Really simple too because beyond grating the carrots, crumbling up the nuts a bit and chopping the ginger it's all just stirring things together so no need for a mixer or anything. I can genuinely get the batter all done and ready before the oven has heated up.

Less the buttercream (or with a non-dairy alternative) it's also lactose free. I've never tried using an egg substitute to make it vegan but I honestly wouldn't be surprised if it works well with one

This is my emergency cake recipe, especially since it works perfectly with gluten-free flour and as 16 muffins instead of one cake. I do also use pecans instead of walnuts and ginger in syrup rather than crystallised ginger, but that's just personal taste and what I always have in the cupboard.

Hesletine becoming the sensible voice of Conservatism and actually being further left on this topic than a lot of the Labour front bench boggles my mind, but that's where we're at these days.

“You described Reform and other parties across Europe today as among the 'right wing equivalents of the fascists in the 1930s'. Why?”

“Because that’s what they are”

@vicderbyshire.bsky.social asks Lord Heseltine about remarks he made at Conservative Party Conference.

We've seen Kylie, kd lang, Scissor Sisters and Bonnie Raitt at the Apollo in Manchester (about 3000, I think). I miss big names doing smaller venues like that.

The Tories have the energy of someone who complains that there is dog shit on the pavements but also refuses to pick up their own dogs shit because its "not their job".

Luckily we got to see her when she did a full proper tour in 2007. That time she did the MEN Arena in Manchester which seats 21,000 and was the largest UK arena at the time (it's still the second largest now). Needless to say she sold that out as well.

This was back before internet bookings so you had to phone for tickets and me and a friend at work tried to call as soon as the lines opened. When we finally got through they told us she'd sold out within twenty minutes and was the fastest selling concert they'd ever had.

So in 2002 they announced that she would be playing the Bridgewater Hall in Manchetser. It's a lovely venue but mosyly hosts classical and jazz concerts and only seats just under 2500, so it's not large by any means.

He also persuaded her not just to tour the US but to come to Europe as well, even if only for a few small gigs to test the waters and see if their was an audience for her.

Back in thr late 90s and early 00s Dolly Parton was not at the level of acclaim as she is now (despite releasing some of her most critically acclaimed Bluegrass albums) and she ended up firing her manager ans getting a new one who persuaded her the thing to do was go out and tour.

On the plus side seeing absolutely everyone say how much they love Dolly has been lovely.

An update from Freida Parton so it sounds like Dolly isn't well, but she's not *that* unwell. Still at 79 any illness isn't good so I'm still hoping she's fine because she's clearly got so much to give still and makes the world a better place just by being in it.
A screenshot of a post from Freida Parton on thr Other Place. It reads:
I want to clear something up. I didn't mean to scare anyone or make it sound so serious when asking for prayers for Dolly. She's been a little under the weather, and I simply asked for prayers because I believe so strongly in the power of prayer. It was nothing more than a little sister asking for prayers for her big sister. Thank you all for lifting her up. Your love truly makes a difference

Dolly doesn't get enough credit for how funny her songs often are. She has a way with words that manages to be clever, funny and, frequently, completely filthy. "I may not be in love, but let me tell you I'm in heat" is such a perfect couplet

They better take Trump or Putin as well (or both) as compensation. Even if she does get better maybe Trump and Putin should be taken just to be on the safe side.

I don't believe in prayer, but I'm willing to make the exception for Dolly Parton because I know *she* does.

For films my go-tos are The Haunting (the 60s film, not the dreadful 80s one) and The Others, but neither of them have positive endings

Les Diaboliques is fantastic. Even the Hollywood remake isn't bad.

Have you watched Mike Flanagan's TV series? The Haunting Of Hill House, The Haunting Of Bly Manor and The Fall Of The House Of Usher. All terrific, Hill House is the scariest (Bly Manor is sort of a love story) and they all have very traumatic stuff, but mostly with resolution.
