Every year Bogong moths (Agrotis infusa) migrate 600+ miles to cool mountain caves where they take refuge from the Australian summer heat. Remarkably, these insects find their way at night via a combination of celestial navigation and magneto-perception! 🧪

It’s never too late to start masking. It doesn’t matter how many covid infections you’ve had, any infection delayed or prevented is a good thing.

You’re also helping protect others when you mask up. You’re breaking chains of transmission. You’re saving lives.

How does buoyant #marineplastic litter get removed from the ocean surface? Only the smallest #microplastic (< 100 micron) can reach the ocean floor through aggregation with #marinesnow. Read more about this great PhD research from @nanwu1112.bsky.social. @sgrieve.bsky.social doi.org/10.1002/lno....
Marine snow as vectors for microplastic transport: Multiple aggregation cycles account for the settling of buoyant microplastics to deep‐sea sediments
Many studies have reported the paradoxical observation of high concentrations of low-density microplastics (plastic particles < 5 mm) in deep-sea sediments despite their buoyancy. The incorporation o....

Air pollution from aeroplanes is a combination of gases and particles.

The gases can turn into particles further away from the airport. This can be 70-90% of the particles in a nearby town.

But only the particles created within the airport are legislated for, meaning 70-90% are not.
