Bicycle Repairman
@bicyclerepairman.bsky.social
Was once told my bike was a "three-speed with five gears." Now posting actual bike repair #BR tidbits here on bsky instead of that other place.
You could beef up that Canon with a fun, versatile firmware boost!

It's long been:
One-piece/Ashtabula, 1/2"-20TPI, 9/16" wrench (SAE);
English, etc, 9/16"-20TPI, 15mm wrench (mixed);
French, 14x1.25mm, 15mm wrench (metric).

I was lamenting that 1/2" pedals now mix SAE and metric measurements.

Ashtabula cranks are still popular in the US.

Nice! That's a find, despite having been "clincherized" with (oversize) 27" wheels and then needing shorter brakes. But "safety" levers??

I hear you about the plastic Simplex & have seen my share of dead/dying Simplex Prestiges. I recall the Competition having a better action, mainly b/c the shifters were metal instead of the squishy plastic on the Prestige.

IIRC, the Competition had ball-bearing jockey wheels?

Sorry the bike lost its original silver and black Simplex Competition rear derailleur, but I see the bar-cons so the "modern" derailleur mod (including tapping the dropout?) gets a thumbs up.
