Was once told my bike was a "three-speed with five gears." Now posting actual bike repair #BR tidbits here on bsky instead of that other place.

Google image search thinks these pictures are "visually similar"
The Cowardly Lion, The Tin Man, Dorothy, and The Scarecrow startled by someone outside of picture, from "The Wizard of Oz." C3P0, Leia, Chewbacca, and Han Solo startled by something outside of picture, from "The Empire Strikes Back."

Truth in advertising?

When life gives you lemons...put 'em in your eyes!
An in-store display of candy bars advertising a lemon zest flavor. A model pictured on the display is holding a candy bar and has lemon slices covering both eyes.

The internet’s addicted to doom. But if you spend any time outside the timeline, the world’s still full of people doing good, weird, hopeful things.

Google can't even install a chainring.

An AI response to my question about a 54 BCD chainring cautioned that shifting might be affected if I mount it on a 74 BCD crank.

The DIY fails are going to be a riot.

Church Sign needs its own Bluesky account. Donating a less cringey sign.

A sign at a church. Moveable letters are arranged to spe!!, "SEND PIE."

Ugh, the modems couldn't complete handshake and establish data link.

It still amazes me just how big the refinery the Nostromo was towing is as a model. This BTS photo really gives it scale.

And this was twenty years before the description 'bigatures' was used. I first heard that word on a 'The Lord of the Rings' movie doc, but I'm not sure if it was already in use.

It's time for another installment of #StuckGears

Art directors: If you want an image to represent a machine metaphor, it should at least be of a _working_ machine.
A thumbnail illustration of a stock photo showing three gears in silhouette against a white background. The gears are different sizes and each gear has its cogs engaged with those of its neighbor.

The gears in this three-gear assembly cannot rotate.

It was installed in common, coiled housing. Coiled gear housing wouldn't have been too scary, but using compressionless gear housing for the brakes would be a ginormous no-no!

There IS such a thing as compressionless brake housing--but I'm NOT a fan.

Um, I wonder how many drivers are even aware of the speed limit change, some years back, to 25MPH from 30MPH within the city?
bicyclerepairman.bsky.social
Indeed. I can understand doing that if you're on a long ride and need to get home (it's still dicey), but I found this on a low-end kid's bike.

These gear cables are far too short! #BR

Most new bikes ship partially assembled. Sometimes, shifter cables for a different sized bike are mounted at the factory. This mistake becomes readily evident upon final assembly.

The assembly mechanic should have corrected this.
A derailleur bike with a stem-mounted shifter. The cables from the shifter to the down tube stopper are too short, causing the cable to go taut when turning the handlebar.

This is hands down the most complicated tropical forecast I’ve ever seen. Models split between landfall in the Southeast, looping off the coast, or yeeting out to sea. Forecast looks like spaghetti night at grandma’s.
