Time moves on. I've thought about that a lot too. The wireless was all but ubiquitous in Ireland and Britain by 1960, TV by mid 1980s. I think in that particular film they're meant to be slightly out of the loop, a little bit behind at every juncture.

Watched When The Wind Blows (1986) for the first time in many years the other night and man it is still so emotionally powerful. It's interesting what it has in common with the short Canadian animation, The Big Snit (1985), the latter being more off the wall.
