So I guess I’m not so worried about my own salary so much as that we might be destroying the path into the middle class that tech careers represent. If we break the path in it becomes like so many other careers where you just have to know somebody.

Everyone still wants to hire experienced folks and the problem is that we don’t really have a lot of roles that can take someone from inexperienced to experienced in the industry right now.

Because of this, I think a lot of the big tech companies that used to hire an army of interns and new grads are not doing that anymore (or not at anywhere near the same scale), which has created a really tight job market for new grads.

The way I and most of my peers started out is spending a couple years just churning out a tremendous amount of code, and we now have a machine that can churn out low to mid quality code with only a bit more supervision.

I don’t think calling it a model is really accurate it’s more of a narrative description of how people react to widely hyped technologies but I think with that said it’s a pretty common pattern.
