I still remember hanging out in the Software Development Books section at Barnes & Noble. I spent many hours and many thousands of dollars there on those books. It was how I and most of my colleagues kept ourselves current.

Just like the “it’s so much cheaper than cable” conversations about streaming services from a decade ago. But I remember when cable was $6.95 a month.

I am reminded of this every time I watch a stream of an old TV show that includes the original commercials. “Yep. This is how it started,” I think every time.
