I can't help but comment on the irony of clicking on a link to a story about the decline of journalism only to be presented with this:
A screenshot of a website being displayed on a phone screen. There's an opaque grey cookie consent banner at the top, which reads "This site uses cookies from Google to deliver its services and to analyse traffic. Your IP address and user agent are shared with Google, together with performance and security metrics, to ensure quality of service, generate usage statistics and to detect and address abuse." Below the "learn more" and "got it" buttons at the bottom of the cookie consent banner, the large words "Free in Seconds" are visible from. Below that, the entire bottom half of the screen is covered by a Temu advert, consisting of a portrait-orientation video of a bathroom displayed in a landscape-orientation frame, which has then been letterboxed, surrounded by several photos of mattresses, beds and sofas. The bottom of the advert says "Amazing Deals on Temu". None of the actual article is visible. Dismissing the cookie banner and Temu ad reveals that "Free in Seconds" is part of another half-screen-height ad that had been mostly covered by them.
