Soon everybeast was tucking into shortbread biscuits, brown bread, white cheese, and one of Friar Broggle's cherry and damson puddings. There was rosehip an' mint tea or coltsfoot'n'burdock tonic to go with it.

Eyes widened as dish after dish was brought to the table. Apple and redcurrant pie, jugs of wild grape sherry! One enormous basin o' mushroom and barley soup! Wheels of yellow nutcheese, hot loaves of sage and butternut bread! Beechnut sponge with honeymaple preserves!

Barley and oat dumplings, with mushroom, cress, parsley, dandelion, and green acorn stew, strawberries with meadowcream, and blueberry tart. All was washed down with a variety of drinks. Dark ale, hot dandelion an' mint tea, elderberry cordial or rosehip'n'elderflower water.

Cellar supplies all up an' waitin'. First barrel of last October's ale tapped, pennywort cordial, mint an' rosehip tea, dandelion fizz, oh, and a small firkin of cherry wine, to keep out the chill.

From its commencement at early twilight, the feast was a complete success; cheese and leek flan garnished with hotroot sauce, fennel, cloudberry, dandelion, hazelnut, dried fruit, and cheese salad, chestnut and barley bread, and redcurrant fritters.

A smidgen of apple and cream pudding, a pawful of bilberries, a swig of borage an' rosehip tea, a beaker full of pennycloud an' bulrush cordial, some of the horsechestnuts baked in cider, lots of celery and woodland herb dip, and an extra-large helping of cheese and leek turnovers.

Loaves with shining fresh crusts—seeded, patterned, farls, cobs, and batons—ranged between cheeses of red and yellow. Pies and tarts, damson, plum, raspberry, and cherry, latticed or open, twinkled as their fillings caught the candle and lantern lights.
