i got 100% items and scans so i got the secret cutscene you otherwise need to buy an amiibo for. without spoilers, i can say 2006 gamefaqs fan theory thread authors are pumping their fists in vindication

the ending was fucked up and deflating but the final boss was peak. so....win?

I'll reply to this with my immediate postgame reaction

This isn't a flaw per se but my biggest nitpick is enemy variety. It's the same robots or screaming ghouls in every level, and only the forest feels like it has an ecosystem. There's nothing like sheegoths or grenchlers

Thankfully the music is great. My biggest complaint about Dread wasn't the linearity, it was that the soundtrack had zero bangers. When you turn on the generator in Ice Belt and the music kicks in, it's so fucking sick

I almost hope there's DLC, because if there was just ooone more zone of the same quality as Volt Forge and Ice Belt, literally just one more, this could be an all time classic. Up until the fire zone I would have easily ranked it above prime 3 at least

So now that I've got 100% items and all but two scans (the final boss I assume) I'm going to do the finale and see if it's cool or if it leaves a hole in my heart.

If the fire zone hadn't just done the same thing, I wouldn't mind it as much. A one-off cinematic area would have been fine, especially if it was the finale. But it wasn't

The mines were the last dungeon (I think) and it was literally just a Bungie level. It was basically just, walk in a straight line until you get to a barrier, fight a horde of screaming enemies while the NPC works on the barrier, repeat. And exploring it later is boring, because it's a straight line

What's a shame is that you permanently change the environment when you're there with the NPCs, and you never got to take your time and look at everything before doing so. I only have a feel for the place after blowing everything up.

Going back there by myself though, I could see it's a well designed area and it felt like I was playing Metroid Prime. The puzzles were fun, the environment is interesting, and it's the only level that actually lets you do anything with the bike.

That kind of writing is literally extinct. Imagine how good movies would be these days if they simply made every single line quotable

I'm dreading getting to the desert part but I'm hours past Miles and have only heard him a few times since... And the rest of the experience is so peak... It feels like playing a prime game for the first time

"this game sucks compared to old prime" - guy who never read a single metroid sprite comic in the 00s
