An army of cuties coming along nicely. I am imagining this as a wall piece that is a "swarm of candy-striped leaf hoppers". I don't think this species actually swarms but in art it will. #ceramics #handbuilding #SciArt #insects #leafhopper

Love love love working with undergrads. Mentorship opportunity in the Solnica-Krezel lab, TAing for @biyolokum.bsky.social's regeneration for undergrads class, I'm having so much fun. I miss the excitement and curiosity without worrying about funding or practicality. What a great space to be in.

Latest from ours: www.cell.com/cell-reports...

This is two stories in one: a case study/cautionary tale on developing genetic tools in new organisms, and the first hint at a gene regulatory network for choanoflagellate multicellular development (which turn out to involve a Hippo/YAP/ECM loop!) A 🧵

We've just been awarded a grant to study the cellular basis of regeneration – to track the progenitors of sensory organs in the context of leg regeneration, in our favourite crustacean tinyurl.com/parhyale, based on live imaging and cell tracking. The project involves some cool collaborations... 1/3

I get that the news cycle is packed right now, but I just heard from a colleague at the Smithsonian that this is fully a GIANT SQUID BEING EATEN BY A SPERM WHALE and it’s possibly the first ever confirmed video according to a friend at NOAA

In one of the papers people cited the 1st set are called "frontal horns". Is that a specialized name? Or is not accurate?

Not sure if it would be a good replacement for lino, because of its softness. But maybe you could glue it onto a piece of wood for stability? Definitely worth giving it a try!
Also if you use clay, you need to use mold release. Feel free to DM me. :)
biyolokum.bsky.social
Yes! I first carve into clay, and the clay needs to be bisqued so it is no longer brittle. But if you don't have access to a kiln, you could use a self-hardening clay I think. Then I use this two-part silicone mold putty. It is soft and bendable even after curing though, which works great for clay.
