This year my son requested a strawberry cake for his birthday. I made a fresh strawberry reduction 2 days ago and now have a homemade strawberry cake with my own vanilla (homemade extract) and strawberry buttercream with the reduction in everything, and between the layers some.

I'm disappointed that the new Street Fighter movie doesn't appear to have been brave enough to give Guile the same American flag tattoo on both arms. You'd figure if they were going to be true to the hair, they could have gone full send on the tattoos.

Last night we got in our first game of Deep Regrets by @tettix.bsky.social, and had a fantastic time. You can tell how much love went into every aspect of this game. We are looking forward to jumping back in as soon, as we have developed some better strategies to try next time we are out at sea!

We have finally finished the last achievement in Dorfromantik:The Board Game on our 24th play, and now we can put it to rest until it lands in the hands of others. We already have a copy of the follow-up, Sakura, on a @gamenerdzcom.bsky.social hold, but will take a bit of time before we table it.

I had a rough 2024 in many ways, but boardgames were a nice anchor, and we managed to play plenty of them. I'm looking forward to getting many more games to the table in the new year, and I'm loving the new year-end review in @bgstatsapp.bsky.social.

Happy holidays! I hope everyone has been getting time to play a few rounds of boardgames this season.
We completed our 2024 30x3 challenge tonight! Colleen continued her dominance in Rebirth, absolutely trouncing me on our first play of the Ireland map.

We completed our 2024 30x3 challenge tonight! Colleen continued her dominance in Rebirth, absolutely trouncing me on our first play of the Ireland map.
One more round of Rebirth taken by Colleen! We both scored much higher this time, and she won by a single point. We gave Scotland one more try but next time is Ireland. This game stayed set up in the table two times in a row, so we are definitely feeling it.

Got Rebirth to the table for the first time. We both quite liked it. Having a single tile to play each turn made it move very quickly at two players, and the game quickly got stabby in an enjoyable way. I'm looking forward to another round on Scotland before trying the Ireland map.

According to YouTube Music, 2024 appears to officially be the year of Canadian hip-hop for me. @wordburglar.bsky.social was the top of my listening last year, and he appears to have been the gateway drug to the wider Backburner crew (and more Wordburglar).

We got our first round of Charcuterie played last night. It was a fun, quick game with beautiful art and production. I think the most interesting thing about it after one play is how freeform it is for tile laying game.

We made him a decent showing while contending with various illnesses last month (tis the season). We are now within striking distance of completing our 30x3 challenge for the year, which is exciting. I think in our challenge for next year we will do deeper dives on a smaller number of games. TBD
