It’s easy to assign evil to some distant entity that you’re always looking to vanquish. But when the thing you have to overcome is yourself? That’s something else.

This is not a “just Mormon/LDS” thing. But I do think it’s important to call attention to how harmful people hide behind religious practices to project themselves as “good” individuals.

But it is/was excused because they went to church, went to the temple, paid their tithes, and checked the other boxes. Because following those guidelines is, for some, more important than being Christlike.

Do we truly believe that NYU would have sought out disciplinary action and put out this statement if he talked about anything else?
