“One more lane…”

NEVER FIXES IT!

Don’t teach road safety, design safe systems
February 13, 2026 at 12:15 PM
Could we please see a pro-congestion charge piece in the press, explaining all the benefits, like the ones they saw in New York

Would be better than being negative about the negative

And here’s the front 😢

In case anyone had any doubts on the visibility from the driver’s position in an SUV - it’s not even possible to see the bonnet, never mind a child

Also, efficient transport appears empty

Here’s the Edinburgh Evening News with an image of a bus stop that was built during lockdown, THAT DOESN’T EVEN EXIST ANYMORE 🙄

There are two very noticeable “dead zones” in the New Town and the Cowgate

Could we get these rectified?

There are more modal-filters* in Edinburgh than you might think!

It’s almost like they’re not controversial!

*strategic closure to motor traffic

Post a sign from your country that tells a story about how they treat their roads.

Entitlement.

Spoiling a common amenity.

Imagine if everyone did this!

Fantastic deputation today at Edinburgh council’s Transport & Environment committee from Royal Park Terrace residents

They’re asking for a modal filter* in their street to prevent rat-running - a street that includes a school & care home & suffers from intrusive traffic trying to bypass London Rd

One of the most successful pedestrian streets in the world, the Strøget in Copenhagen, was filled with cars until a 2 year pedestrianisation pilot project in 1962

What could we do to fix ours?

Tarmac everything, then drivers will be able to take the shortest route everywhere

“All these roads, but nowhere to go”
January 27, 2026 at 6:43 PM
That claim on there being a useful “home made” extra lane looks a bit dubious / clickbaity though:

You’d have to drive through a lamppost and a set of traffic lights to make use of it

Terrible desecration of the Mumbai coastline

“Urban motorways are a discredited solution to traffic congestion, dating back to the 1960s [and] congested US cities, ignoring the need for public transport infrastructure and forcing more people to buy cars”

How does that fit with council plans for a crossing at the top of Ashley Tce, as part of the Dundee St / Fountainbridge active travel scheme?

Due for implementation around 2028*

Valleyfield St: closed, signed diversion for bikes via the only viable alternative, Glengyle Tce

Glengyle Tce: NCN 74 cycleway closed with a sign saying, “use Valleyfield Street”

Quite a lot of speeding goods vehicles in Holyrood park - where they are prohibited 🤔

Only 12% of drivers keeping to the limit
January 13, 2026 at 2:19 PM
We also wouldn’t need quite so much mediaeval “Hostile Vehicle* Management”

*a vehicle cannot be “hostile”, only a driver can do that

**these caltrops style barriers look like they could impale a cyclist that caught one

You are not stuck in traffic. You are the traffic

Isn’t advertising by fossil-fuel-based companies banned on @edinburghcouncil.bsky.social ‘s property?

What’s going on?
