Leyendecker also illustrated a collection of Irish myths. Here is his vision of Queen Maeve:

Only alternative I can think of is a panzer bear from the "His Dark Materials" trilogy.

Veal and ricotta meatballs. It was what there was for supper. Kneading 2 lb of ground veal, ricotta, grated Parmesan, panko, 2 eggs and seasoning obviated the need to do OT exercises for my neuropathy today.

2 meatballs, some warm homemade marinara, a salad, and a glass of wine made a nice dinner.

Nice work.

Here's a hooded crow, a common corvid in Europe, checking out the remnants of our breakfast of our hotel-room terrace in Rome two years ago.

Live crawdad found in my back yard after a heavy rain a few years back. Our lot backs up on a branch of the Wheeler NWR with a backwater from the Tennessee River.

The Venus Callipygos (Venus of the Beautiful Buttocks,) in the Farnese Collection in the Archeological Museum in Naples. And yes, she is positioned so her buttocks are the first thing one sees when one enters that gallery.

Thought to be a Roman copy of a Greek original in bronze.

If you see this, post a bridge.

Die Steinerne Brücke, in Regensburg, Germany. Constructed in the mid-12th Century, this was until the Industrial Revolution the only road bridge across the Danube between Ulm and Vienna.

“Meerp!” The void calls out to the void.

This was the menu at a tiny sandwich place about a block from our hotel in Rome when we were there two years ago. Why can't we have this kind of sandwich joint in the US instead of endless iterations of Subway or other sandwich chains?

The Autumnno, BTW, was totally awesome.

Has anyone else noticed how certain busts of the Roman Emperor Vespasian resemble Lyndon Baines Johnson?

A Boulevardier to finish off the evening: equal parts whisky, Campari, and sweet vermouth. I used Templeton Rye as the whisky. It is a smoother cocktail than the Negroni, of which it is a variation.

I'm going on 69, and I figured out years ago that I look like I have more hair if it's cropped short than if I try to grow it longer. These days I have the barber trim everything to 1/4 inch, and taper the back.

Repost with your age and a recent pic.

Age: 68

Not my best look. Had just completed 7 weeks of radiation treatments for cancer, and I start another round of chemo on Monday.

As I've told Jerome already, he's got a real talent for finding the one or two photos in a shoot that tell you a whole story (or which make you want to write the story the photo is telling you.) Like this one:

Here’s a picture of the type of gun intended for the fort on Spinnaker Island. They were leftovers from a class of battleships the Navy wanted to build in the mid-1920’s, but which were cancelled after the US signed on to a treaty limiting the size of the world’s major navies.
