I break things and write detailed reports. Rapid Prototyper. Maker. Apprentice Knifemaker. Sometimes I try to help explain social situations to dudes.

Trans rights are human rights and Black lives matter.

I love you.
It took over half an hour to cook this large batch properly; smells amazing.

Next it will cool a bit and be served with Lawry's Salt in a bowl. Often served with fresh homemade rolls and butter but I'm planning on at least three bowls of these noodles; no room for bread.

As they cook the noodles will swell, absorbing broth into them.

Pull out an inch and chew on it, after letting it cool a bit, to see if they are done:

Adding these noodles to the boiling broth and leaving them on simmer for 10-15 minutes is the next step. They will need to be stirred every minute or so in order to ensure they cook evenly. The ones on the bottom will cook faster than the ones on the top.

Once the egg noodles are cut and in a bowl I toss them in flour to coat them; if they clump it will result in uneven cooking of the noodles and isn't as nice to eat.

It's finally Noodle Day here! I was busy yesterday and had to leave the broth in the fridge for a bit after de-boning it.

The broth simmered for over 7 hours; long enough to render the cartilage and soften the bones.

A simple egg noodle recipe is used to make the noodles:

Once again plying the dark arts of 3D printer building; it has drawn a blood sacrifice on one of the header pins already. We can only hope its bloodlust is slated for now.

Things suck right now so I'm simmering a turkey carcass for 7-9 hours to make a wonderful broth that I use to make homemade noodles.

Find something to do for yourself/others to bring a little bit of comfort in all this. We need it now.

My house smells amazing!

I forgot to show the motor controllers being installed:

Beautiful! Soon there will be more wires and motor drivers and other goodies!

This doesn't appear to be a CM4 module and yet it seems to be in the same form factor:

Pressing in screw retainers (heat set M3 threaded inserts) via a hot press jig for that 3D printer build I've been working on with a friend:

Still more clean up to do but making good progress:

Some of y'all want to see the full stream of sparks I'm sure so here you go:

(Note: while Dad has active ventilation going for this I personally recommend and use a breathing filter as well; I am wearing my 3M PAPR)

Here's a different view of the process:

"How do you see what is happening?"

You don't really; it's primarily done by feel.

So what separates freehand grinding from other methods? As the name implies: it's done entirely by hand. No jigs, rests, or fancy CNC.

It takes a very long time to build these skills up.

My brother is working on a new kitchen knife for himself:

Having Dad help with the four hollow grinds as I'm out of practice and he's so much faster than I am. Notice how the tip is ground to curve over; this will be done on both sides until it evens into a straight line.

Grinding the flats first; the hollow grinds will be done afterwards. This side reveals a problem:

It came out of heat treatment okay and now I need to grind off the carbon scale:

Speaking of heat treatment of blades: the thick bit on this blade is left here to ensure that the tip does not bend during heat treatment; it will be ground off along with the carbon scale in the next phase:

(This is a blade my uncle or cousin is working on and not one of mine):

Well phase one of the heat treatment is done now and it has been quenched in the oil:
