You really think that a country on the precipice of falling into civil war, where police trample the lives of the citizenry every single day, makes it a good time to strip people of the only vehicle of self-defense and an aid of community self-policing?

That's the teeth-gritting madness of all of this. Trump has the people in place and the allies in Congress to accomplish a lot of what he wants the legal way, but he seems bent on forcing a confrontation over the scope of his power.

"Democrats are pissed off and ready to take action."

Yeah, I'm sure they'll get right on that as soon as they approve all of Donald Trump's nominees.

Stellar argument. Absolutely shattered my worldview.

Doesn't make much sense to pay a million dollars for a home that won't last the length of the mortgage. Even before code requirements were as stringent as they are now, we built homes that would last hundreds of years. Now that just simply isn't the case.

I think that we need to explore alternative building material options. Especially with the absolutely horrid quality of construction lumber nowadays. Nearly every single new construction home that I've been in, had major structural issues (mostly in the roof to wall connection area).

Build more QUALITY housing should be the goal. I don't need a horribly framed home that doesn't even have roof tie-downs in an are they're required. I don't need a bathroom that won't last 10 years because of absolutely horrible quality work done. I need a home that will last the rest of my life.

But I do grant that this can be a problem in many locales, especially big cities.

This is not true where I am, especially for residential. There are still a few rare issues where it doesn't make financial sense to get a permit but they're fairly few and far between.

The housing market (especially new construction) is absolutely filled with issues like this. And a lot of it comes from the fact that agents and builders can be quite persuasive and often have a lot of influence over local policy.

And even if the buyer is paying, and chooses their own inspector, and isn't required to pick an inspector from an approved list of inspectors (they often are), then it's still likely that some bias is introduced because they have worked together and will again.

(Wouldn't all fit in one tweet)

They're vilified because in a lot of places they're charging obscene prices, and then are cutting corners and not even meeting code requirements. This is allowed to continue because inspectors have to build relationships with these companies who blacklist inspectors that call out shoddy practices...

... Do you think we control our coworkers votes? If I did, I promise you they wouldn't be MAGA lol.

The same people say that about the police. There's certainly a ton of racism in policing, but at its core it's an issue of the working class vs ruling class. The police kill people all the time, regardless. Being a POC definitely makes the cops more likely to interact w you, but they'll kill anyone.

If u still think this, there is no saving u...this is a donor funded operation. These people control both parties. While racism always plays a structural role, this is 95% a money in politics problem

Listening** not listened.

I'm super partial to huge stories. I'm a big audible listener while at work, as I work on the phone, and I spend probably close to a thousand hours a year listening to audiobooks between listened during and outside of work. I absolutely adore a good long series. Esp if the series is complete.
