It's hard to help Americans left behind because so much of US identity is rooted in individualism. The average American conservative holds all three positions at once:

— Virtue signals about supporting US manufacturing
— Against raising the minimum wage
— Buys foreign imports because they're cheap

Basic math, numbers from 2024:

US exports to Canada = $349B
Canada exports to US = $413B

Population Canada = 40M
Population US = 340M

Canada pays $/per capita = $8,725
US pays $/per capita = $1,214

US-Canada trade largely favours US, when considering population size. No "US trade deficit". CQFD

They had 4 years previously to FO and didn’t learn. And now it’s back, but worse.

One quirk of this law is getting hit for it for kids at an NI grammar school - when that school was assigned through a preference system run by the Dept of Education and wasn’t the first choice school for our child. Felt a bit ripped off and ignored tbh (fees are not at typical English school level)

The US has often benefitted economically when Europe has been at war.

The UK only finished paying off debt to US for WW2 in the last 10y. When Russia invaded Ukraine the US dollar strengthened against the Euro and pound sterling.

Trump/Vance/Musk may manage to destroy many of the US’s advantages.

Did two family holidays to the states while Biden was in, second on last summer with the feeling Trump could get back in.

Tourists at least who don’t like the look of what’s now going on in the states would do well to avoid and not spend their money there.

Does he just not have the balls to make an actual substantive decision about the UK’s EU relationship, so the status quo will be it?

I suppose they or people using their platforms could directly automatically copy the posts over from X.

The whole thing sucks, though.
