An extremely well-deserved lawsuit. LA for too long has relied on "rezoning" via incentive-based programs that don't actually increase residential capacity (because of alternatives that exist, namely state density bonus).
Nonprofits allege Los Angeles plan to boost housing development is too weak, illegal
Housing nonprofits Yes in My Back Yard and Californians for Homeownership sued the city of Los Angeles on Thursday, alleging its plan to boost homebuilding violates state law.

Hakeem is so utterly wrong for the position of House Minority Leader in these current times. He speaks like an alien. Just some of the limpest, lamest nonsense I've heard.

This is what LA needs to do in the area bounded by the I-110, the Pacific Ocean, the I-10, and the Santa Monica mountains to have a remote chance at solving the city's housing crisis.
I can’t believe it - after years of advocacy, exclusionary zoning has ended in Cambridge.

We just passed the single most comprehensive rezoning in the US—legalizing multifamily housing up to 6 stories citywide in a Paris style

Here’s the details 🧵

Just heard Mama Shelter LA closed yesterday. A real bummer, and definitely not a spot I thought would close anytime soon.

New @ifp.bsky.social - @niskanencenter.bsky.social housing collab out today:

Congress can & should restrict LIHTC eligibility for the most expensive big blue cities unless they adopt basic pro-housing reforms

-Why LIHTC?
-Why big expensive cities specifically?

Let's get into it🧵

Another example of the travesty that is CA housing policy. If we can suspend CEQA and Coastal Act review to quickly rebuild tinderbox houses in wildfire areas, we can certainly do so for infill apartment buildings with actual fire standards.

the biggest reason imo is that Dems ran on Protecting Democracy but didn't do shit about Trump attempting a coup, so marginal voters understandably concluded they were full of shit bsky.app/profile/pj00...

Dems should just ruthlessly pass voter ID laws wherever possible. It's already been shown that they now have an advantage in low-turnout elections, so fuck it.
Democrats are way out of of the mainstream on voter ID.

Average people don’t buy the line that it’s hard to get ID in the year 2024 when you need it for everything else.

Rs are exploiting lack of voter ID to sow distrust in elections.

I think it's especially worth reflecting on the takeaways here when, in the midst of a historic homelessness crisis, the mayor of LA is talking about keeping multifamily affordable housing out of single family neighborhoods to prevent gentrification

I hate this influencer bullshit from an ex-president. Bring back the Jimmy Carter way.

How about just... building enough hotels to meet demand, which will be crushing during the Olympics. Unfortunately, the worst city council in America passed an ordinance last year requiring new hotels to obtain conditional use permits w/public hearing requirements. Whoops!

For those who think that LA's mayor is pro housing, here's a sobering reality check.
Paradigmatic example of aldermanic privilege in L.A. on affordable housing.

Approval of a 120-unit affordable housing development in Venice by the California Coastal Commission this week did not lead to clarity on whether it will break ground.

What a huge loss for labor. Democrats had an opportunity to lock in a majority on the NLRB till 2026 ... and Manchin + Sinema just sabotaged them. Now Trump can immediately stack the board with union-loathing conservatives who'll undo four years of progress. www.axios.com/2024/12/11/s...

Maybe it's unfounded, but I kind of feel that healthcare providers are more to blame for the sorry state of the healthcare system in the US than the insurers.

It’s official: I’m running for Mayor of New York City — because we need to Rebuild NYC.

Rebuild NYC is a mandate for one million homes — because either we bring down the cost of housing, or we continue to lose New Yorkers. And I don’t know about you, but I’m not leaving.
