I get why the article uses the shorthand, but many of the other buildings in that neighborhood actually did “burn down” because the fire department refused to respond. The community had to try to do what they could and to make it safe after. Most of city government wasn’t part of that community.
A husk of a formerly 4ish story brick building with smoking rubble inside. Regular people with work gloves and masks and a case of bottled water are right next to remaining multi-story high brick walls that have almost no internal structure left to support them. Just out of site are people with brooms, shovels and trash bags they brought, cleaning up sidewalks. Red “Danger” tape stretches from a non-functioning traffic light, not really delineating any particular area. A photo of the intersection of Lake St and 27th Ave with a few cars and people pitching in as they are able: sweeping the cross-walk with brooms from home, someone standing next to a spray painted sign saying “Breakfast” and an SUV with its trunk hatch open and various food boxes and a large bowl. Others appear to be just trying to take it in. Burned out Auto-zone behind. Smoke blackened 4-story brick building with only outside walls left standing. Smoking rubble visible inside. Light streams through the arched holes where windows were from the inside because there’s no roof. A pile of trash bags, probably filled with rubble swept up off the sidewalk, sits on the curb. Lots of people walking around further away in the intersection. Burnt out single story brick post office. Only a few of the outside brick walls remain standing. Large chunks of concrete rubble litter the ground around it. Smoke wafts through openings where doors and windows were.

Welcome to the jungle.
A profusion of plants in a flower bed between house and fence fills the frame. Mostly flowering monarda (bee balm) and common milkweed past flowering. In few spots you see glimpses of a sidewalk beneath the vegetation, next to the fence.

Longfellow gettin’ that corn!
Grassy field full of people chillin together on what looks like a beautiful day(it’s actually kinda smoky out). Bubbles in the foreground. Several shade tents scattered around, including one for “Best Pizza Ever”. Bouncy castles can be seen in the background. Hard to see, but in the way back behind several people are these inflatable ball things that kids crawl inside of and then smash into each other with.
