We would go for field trips in school, and the choral concert at the holidays. It’s sickening.

A few years ago my still working cousin age 63ish in Sweden let me know she’d be off for the Xmas holidays for a month. My mom was raised in 🇫🇮, but I grew up here. Every year I am certain the Scandic have one thing right - lots of leave that people enjoy in unison. I think that could save me.

The “it’s my money, I should control it” mindset is unbelievably strong in this country. The fact that the US doesn’t have a significant labor identity which understands the power of the collective is huge.

I have met many, many women who have looked at their emotional experiences and attempted to address them. That might look like therapy, or antidepressants, or hobbies, or changing old patterns, or meditation, etc. I have not seen this as much with men.

All I ever wanted was an Oscars cocktail bar experience the way sports fans get sports bars…

An HR Trumpian boss of mine wanted to change our company’s insurance plan to HSA only, circa 2016. Her reasoning: it’s *my* money. They actually believe they’ll be better off.

Wishing I had all my Xmas music on CD and a multi-disc changer that still works, cuz at 58 I appear genetically unable to master getting playlists to actually shuffle, and forget about trying to understand Spotify

Proud of my start at community college after being an underachiever in high school. My years as a transfer student in Madison, WI at a big state school were some of the best of my life. Got my Master’s degree at 55. Non-traditional all the way!

Maybe it’s my scandi heritage, I would never *buy* these cookies on purpose, but when I turn to them after all the more obviously delectable treats are gone, I’m surprised by their humble deliciousness.

Americans are terrified if paying “taxes” so we don’t have large govt support programs. But we pay less in “taxes” only because we pay out of pocket for items covered by taxes in other wealthy nations (healthcare, daycare, education, etc.). It’s insane here.

Maybe weirder still, I and my children got to become citizens of Finland 🇫🇮 because I could prove I was born to a citizen (my mom, who naturalized here about 1960), even though none of us have ever lived there.
