Wowza! I’ve been to his house once and saw his collection. It’s truly awesome.

"Gator Ground" by Robert Edmond Alter, illustrated by Doug Allen, is one of my favorite stories in issue #9 of THE MEN'S ADVENTURE QUARTERLY, the magazine I co-edit with Bill Cunningham. MAQ #9 (amzn.to/49ygMye) features classic croc and gator attack stories from vintage men's adventure magazines.

Beginning a process that I have long considered, which is creating a small press. For now, this is a placeholder. But look for more details soon. We will be seeking offbeat fiction and literary mystery, with a sweet spot for Southern Gothic. @brownhoundpress.bsky.social

As an indie publisher myself, I wish you great success and look forward to seeing what you publish.

I love that one. And Marvin. And Matheson.

Richard Matheson is best known for novels, like I AM LEGEND, and his TWILIGHT ZONE scripts. But he also wrote stories for men's adventure magazines, like this Western story in MEN, July 1958, illustrated by Stan Borack. It’s the shadow of my cat in the door of our bathroom. My real cat was standing on a cat perch in the bathroom window. The sun was casting his shadow on the door. I made the shadow morph into a cat using an AI app called Photo Revive. I dislike most uses of AI, but it can be used for fun stuff.

Who knows when the Shadow Cat will reappear? Happy Caturday!

Ron Lesser's cover painting for DEATH DEAL (1986) is one of many original cover paintings for action/adventure and Western novels that will be showcased in THE ART OF RON LESSER, VOL. 3. Among many things, Ron is a master of light and shadow. Volumes 1 & 2 are on Amazon (amzn.to/4dgRchX) worldwide.

Nice duotone illo. It was used in LIFE magazine, July 2, 1951, for an article on the history of the Overland Stage Line.

The new video on the Paperback Warrior YouTube channel is amazing! It shows over 600 action/adventure paperback covers from the '60s to the '90s. They reinforce my view that cover art (by real artists) was a major attraction and aspect of vintage paperbacks. Here's the link-> youtu.be/Hu-RWIXUe6Q

Forget nepobabies, Neil Connery has to win the prize, starring in a Bond spoof called OK Connery: Operation Kid Brother in which nary a scene goes by without a heavy handed joke about Neil’s older brother, Sean, who understandably was livid.
