I’ve seen a lot of people lashing out at Ridley Scott for his ragebait interview. a) he’s an old geezer; give him a break b) his bad films are more interesting than most good films c) his good films have imprinted cinema significantly d) Gladiator II was gash but the Last Duel… come on.

Great to meet up with @www.johnbleasdale.com at this year’s Giornate Del Cinema Muto in #Pordenone. Could’ve spent the entire day just talking about film books in general to be honest.

Highly recommend his Writers on Film Podcast by the way: open.spotify.com/show/7LMnm5G...

The reactions of many pundits and “supporters” are baffling. The perfect start was a series of last minute gaspers covering a multitude of sins. Yet some were making out the league was won & are now calling for Slot’s removal. The Dunning Kruger school of commentary. @lfcr.bsky.social #ynwa

Hell is watching this show for eternity. The lowest level of hell though is reserved for those who appear on it.

I was reading a book earlier about the person most people think about when they hear the word “movie star”. Not their favorite or the best just the first name that comes into your head.

He isn’t insane. He’s a fascist with a program and a strategy and he’s willing to distort and lie in order to sell that to the public when he can’t force it through when he can’t.

So good to see Demme getting some serious appreciation. His career has a fascinating arc and it’’s scattered with some priceless jewels. Also quietly impressed that David M Stewart knows who Bucks Fizz are.

The visiting MP and the TV crew (who lay down tracks for a dolly shot!?) were convenient targets and Steve’s backstory felt like an add on. Interesting that they changed the title from Shy to Steve as well.
